At Lettermint, we work hard to deliver your emails straight to your recipients' inboxes, not their spam folders. We do this through our verification process, blocking abuse, and carefully maintaining our sending reputation with email providers. We monitor this around the clock and ensure emails are delivered within seconds.
But good infrastructure isn't everything. What's in your emails matters too. Content, formatting, links, and attachments all play a role in whether an email lands in the inbox or gets filtered as spam. That's why we're introducing Spam Insights.
Introducing Spam Insights
Spam Insights is a new feature on Lettermint's Pro plan that helps you understand why emails might end up in spam folders. It analyzes your emails against various criteria that providers like Google, Outlook, and Apple Mail use to detect spam.
All analysis happens on our own infrastructure. We don't use any third-party services to analyze your emails, staying true to our commitment to privacy and security.
How does Spam Insights work?
Every email you send through Lettermint gets analyzed automatically. This happens when the email is created, before it's sent out. We do this for both transactional emails and broadcast emails.
We check your email content against dozens of factors that can affect inbox delivery. Think about:
- Links to suspicious or deceptive websites
- Attachments with dangerous or duplicate extensions
- Suspicious words or phrases commonly found in spam
- Domain reputation: making sure you're not on any blacklists
- Unnatural formatting: too much HTML or not enough plain text
You'll also need proper DKIM and SPF records to send with Lettermint. Email providers expect these records too. Without them, your emails will likely end up in spam.

Spam Score
In your Lettermint dashboard, you'll see a Spam Score for each email. This score shows how "safe" your email is. A low score means your email will probably reach the inbox, while a high score suggests it might get flagged as spam.
- Under 1.5: Excellent. Your email has very little chance of being marked as spam.
- 1.5 to 3.5: Average. Your email has a decent chance of reaching the inbox, but there's room for improvement.
- 3.5 to 5.0: Risky. Your email has a high chance of being filtered as spam. Consider revising it.
- Over 5: Very risky. Your email will almost certainly be marked as spam. We block these emails from being sent.
To protect both recipients and our sending reputation, we block emails with scores over 5. This means the email is very likely to be seen as spam or even phishing. You'll see this immediately in your dashboard.
Improvement suggestions
Spam Insights doesn't just give you a score. It shows you exactly how that score was calculated. We'll point out which parts of your email could be improved to boost your chances of inbox delivery. For scores over 1.5, we recommend reviewing your email content.
