Managing blocked email addresses was already possible within Lettermint, but we've significantly improved the process. With our improved Suppressions Management, you now have better control over bounces and unsubscribes. This ensures emails aren't sent to addresses that can't or don't want to receive them.
What are suppressions?
Suppressions (blocked addresses) are email addresses you're no longer allowed to send messages to. These include addresses that have unsubscribed, emails that bounce, or contacts you've chosen to block for other reasons. By managing these addresses centrally, you protect your sending reputation and respect your recipients' preferences. Additionally, you comply with GDPR regulations that require easy unsubscribe options for email recipients.
Types of suppressions
Email addresses can be blocked in four different categories:
1. Hard Bounces
Email addresses that are permanently unreachable. This occurs when an email address doesn't exist, the domain is invalid, or the mail server permanently rejects the address. Learn more about different email statuses like hard bounce, delivered, and pending in our knowledge base.
2. Unsubscribes
People who have opted out of your emails. They've clicked the unsubscribe link and no longer wish to receive messages. This happens automatically for all broadcast emails sent through Lettermint.
3. Spam Complaints
Recipients who have marked your email as spam with their email provider. These reports affect your sending reputation, so it's crucial to avoid them.
4. Manual
Addresses you've added to the blocklist yourself. Useful for test accounts, competitors, or other addresses you deliberately don't want to email.
Lettermint automatically checks all suppressions before sending any email. Whether you're sending transactional emails or broadcast messages, emails to blocked addresses are prevented from being sent. This keeps your sending reputation intact, ensures GDPR compliance, and respects your recipients' choices.

Improved Suppressions Management
The improved interface gives you a complete overview of all blocked addresses across your projects within your account. You can easily filter by suppression type, date, or specific email addresses to quickly find what you're looking for.
Did you accidentally block an address? Or does someone want to receive your emails again? No problem. You can also remove email addresses from the suppressions list. Simply click once in the dashboard and the address is immediately reactivated and ready to receive emails again.
