We're making our email speed public

At the end of May we introduced Lettermint, the European provider for transactional emails. With our focus on developer-friendly features, reliability and privacy, we've been working hard over the past months on new features to make Lettermint even more valuable for our customers. We update our changelog weekly with new features and improvements.

With Lettermint's incredible growth and the volume of emails we send, the quality of our service is crucial. Regardless of how many emails we send or how many customers we serve, we want emails to arrive lightning-fast in the recipient's inbox.

That's why we continuously monitor the speed of our European infrastructure and the delivery speed of emails. Besides being proud of these speeds with the volume of emails we send, we also want to be transparent about these speeds. We've therefore created a public Time to Inbox page, where you can see the current speed of our emails.

The Time to Inbox journey shows how quickly an email becomes visible in the recipient's inbox. The complete journey consists of several steps:

  1. Send: This is the moment when the email is sent to our servers. We do this through our API which is also used by customers.
  2. Process: Our systems process the email and prepare it for delivery to the recipient. This includes validating the email and applying any meta-data sent by the sender.
  3. Deliver: The email is delivered to the recipient's mail server. From this point, the email is officially delivered.
  4. Provider validation: The recipient's mail server checks the email for various factors, such as spam and authentication.
  5. Inbox arrival: The email appears in the recipient's inbox, ready to be read.

Each step in this process contributes to the total time it takes to get an email into the inbox. While we have no control over part of these steps (such as validation by the recipient's mail server), we do everything we can to make the steps we can influence as fast as possible. We deliver emails in a structure that is optimal for mail providers. All completely through our European infrastructure.

Because when it comes to password resets and order confirmations, every second counts.

As you can read on the Time to Inbox page, we monitor these speeds continuously. When there's a deviation, we take immediate action. Because when it comes to password resets and order confirmations, every second counts.

When developing new features, we closely monitor these speeds. We ensure that new features don't negatively impact the speed.

Take a look at our Time to Inbox page to see the current speed of our emails. Here you'll also find more information about how it works and the most frequently asked questions.
