# MCP server

Connect Claude, ChatGPT or another AI assistant to Lettermint and ask in the chat how your emails are doing. Your assistant checks your account and answers with the numbers.

MCP server URL: `https://api.lettermint.co/mcp`

## Works with any assistant that supports remote MCP servers

Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex, Le Chat, Cursor, VS Code, GitHub Copilot CLI, Gemini CLI, Windsurf and any other client that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth. Setup steps per assistant are in the [MCP documentation](https://lettermint.co/docs/mcp).

## Your assistant takes care of it

How did Tuesday's newsletter do? Is the new domain verified yet? You ask, your assistant looks it up in Lettermint.

- **Answer a customer right away.** A customer asks whether their confirmation went out. Ask your assistant what happened to the email and reply straight away.
- **Campaign results.** Your assistant puts the open and click rates of your latest [newsletter](https://lettermint.co/features/broadcast-emails.md) next to last month's.
- **Send or schedule an email.** Send a test email to yourself or schedule a message for tomorrow morning, without leaving the chat.
- **Set up a domain.** Add a sending domain and ask which DNS records are still missing.
- **What happened to an email.** Your assistant reads the delivery events and tells you, for example, that Gmail accepted the email after 4 seconds.
- **Search the documentation.** Ask which SDK fits your stack or how to set up DKIM. Your assistant looks it up in our documentation.

Example prompts:

- "Summarize delivery statistics for this project over the last seven days."
- "How did my latest campaign do compared to last month?"

More examples are in the [MCP documentation](https://lettermint.co/docs/mcp#example-prompts).

## Personal data stays hidden from your assistant

Transactional emails contain password reset links, invoices and orders. Those don't belong in an AI chat. So your assistant only sees that an email went out and whether it arrived.

Only sending newsletters without personal data? Then your team can make the content visible in the team settings.

- **Personal data hidden by default** - Senders, recipients, subjects and content stay out of view.
- **Log in with OAuth** - No API token ends up in your assistant.
- **Your own permissions apply** - Your assistant only reaches the teams and projects you can access.
- **Your team decides** - Admins can switch MCP off for the whole team at once.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is an MCP server?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI assistants to other services. With the Lettermint MCP server, your assistant reads delivery data, domains and webhooks straight from your account. No more copying things over by hand.

### Which AI assistants work with Lettermint?

Every assistant and editor that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth. That includes Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex, Le Chat, Cursor, VS Code, GitHub Copilot CLI, Gemini CLI and Windsurf. The [MCP documentation](https://lettermint.co/docs/mcp) has the steps for each one.

### Can an AI agent send emails through Lettermint?

Yes. Your agent can send single and batch emails, and schedule, reschedule or cancel them. Because sending involves recipient data, it only works once your team switches off the personal data filter. Every send carries an idempotency key, so a retry never sends the same email twice. Want to try it first? Send an email to ok@lettermint.dev. That address simulates a successful delivery without reaching a real inbox.

### What can my assistant see of my emails?

By default your assistant sees IDs, dates and the status of an email, not who it went to or what was in it. Senders, recipients, subjects, content and attachment names stay hidden. Only team members allowed to manage team security can change that.

### Where does the MCP server run?

On our own infrastructure in the EU, like the rest of [Lettermint](https://lettermint.co/european-email.md). Whatever your assistant receives does go to the AI provider you use. That is why personal data is hidden by default.

### Is the MCP server included in my plan?

Yes, the MCP server works on every plan, including the Free plan. Deliverability analytics through MCP needs the Pro plan. See [pricing](https://lettermint.co/pricing.md) for every plan.

### Do I stay in control of what my agent changes?

Yes. Deleting a project, route, domain or webhook, and rotating a webhook secret, always need an explicit confirmation, and Lettermint rejects the call without it. Most assistants also ask you to approve a change before it runs, and you can block write actions in your client altogether.

### Can I switch MCP off?

Yes. A team admin can turn off MCP access for the whole team, and existing connections stop right away. You can also remove the connector from your assistant at any time.
