# Inbound Emails

Receive and process inbound emails with attachments directly in your application via webhooks. Handle customer replies, automate support tickets and build email-based workflows with structured JSON data from Lettermint's inbound email service.

## What are inbound emails?

With inbound emails you can receive emails from external senders. Unlike outbound emails that you send, inbound emails let you automatically process incoming messages via webhooks, so users can email your application as well.

With Lettermint Inbound Emails you can build workflows like support ticket systems or tracking replies to your campaigns. Lettermint processes incoming messages, filters spam and delivers structured JSON data to your webhook endpoint.

- Process emails as JSON via webhooks
- Full support for attachments
- Perfect for customer service and support
- Use your own domain and email address

## Spam prevention

With built-in spam filtering, unwanted emails are blocked before they reach your webhook. This way you only receive legitimate messages that matter.

You have full control over how strictly emails are filtered. Set the spam threshold to your preference, or disable filtering entirely if you prefer to handle spam yourself. Every webhook contains spam scoring information so you can decide how to process suspicious messages.

## Made in Europe

Lettermint operates exclusively within Europe, on its own infrastructure. Incoming emails and their attachments are processed in the EU and never leave it. Read more about the [European approach](https://lettermint.co/european-email.md).

- **100% GDPR compliant** - Your data never leaves Europe.
- **Your data, your control** - Full ownership of your data.

## Frequently asked questions

### What are inbound emails?

Inbound emails are messages sent to your application from external senders. When someone sends an email to your inbound route address, Lettermint receives it, processes the content and forwards all data to your webhook endpoint. This lets you automate workflows like creating support tickets, converting emails into tasks or tracking replies to your campaigns.

### What's the difference between inbound emails and forwarding?

Regular email forwarding redirects messages from one address to another without any processing. Inbound emails with Lettermint parse the entire message, extract headers and attachments, filter spam and deliver structured data to your webhook endpoint. Your application receives clean JSON instead of raw email files, which makes automated workflows much easier to build.

### How do I receive inbound emails in my application?

Set up a webhook endpoint. When an email arrives at your inbound route, Lettermint sends a POST request to your webhook URL with the complete message data, including sender, subject, body content and attachments. Your application can then process this data and trigger any action, like creating a support ticket or storing the message in your database.

### Can I use my own domain for inbound email addresses?

Yes. Instead of the default @inbound.lettermint.co address, you can set up an address like support@yourdomain.com. This requires an MX record in your DNS settings that points to Lettermint's inbound server. Once verified, every email sent to your custom domain is processed and forwarded to your webhook.

### Does Lettermint filter spam for inbound emails?

Yes, all incoming messages are scanned automatically. You can configure the spam threshold to control how strictly emails are filtered. The default setting blocks obvious spam while letting legitimate messages through. If you prefer to handle spam filtering yourself, you can disable it entirely. Every webhook payload includes spam scoring information.

### How does pricing work for inbound emails?

Inbound emails count towards your monthly email volume, just like transactional and broadcast emails. Inbound email is available on the paid plans (Starter, Growth and Pro). For example, the Starter plan includes 10,000 emails per month that you can split between outbound and inbound however you need. See [pricing](https://lettermint.co/pricing.md).
