# Give team members and clients exactly the right access (RBAC)

> Create your own roles and decide per team member or client what they can see and do. Role-based access control (RBAC) is now available.

Until now there were two user roles: owner and developer. That was
enough for small teams, but we kept getting requests for more
options. Think of a bookkeeper who only needs to see the invoices,
or a support agent who wants to view emails without touching the
settings. And if you run an
[agency](https://lettermint.co/for/agencies), you want
to give a client access to the statistics of their own project.
Nothing more than that.

All of this is now possible with *role-based access control*
(RBAC). You create your own roles with the permissions that belong
to them. Then you decide per team member or client which projects
they can access. This addition had been on our
[roadmap](https://lettermint.co/roadmap/more-user-roles-permissions)
for a while and is available starting today.

## How does it work?

When you create a team, you get a number of system roles:
**Owner**, **Admin** and **Member**. Alongside these system roles,
you can create your own. Simply tick the permissions that belong
to a role. Only managing invoices, or everything except the team
settings? You decide.

Permissions come in two groups. Permissions that apply to the
whole team, think of billing and team management. And permissions
that only apply to the projects someone can access, such as
viewing emails and statistics or managing routes and domains. You
set that access per person: all projects, or a selection.

## Give clients access to their own project

If you work for multiple clients, as an agency or as a freelancer,
you probably send all
[transactional emails](https://lettermint.co/features/transactional-emails)
from a single account. With a project per client that was already
well organized, but everyone with access could see all projects.
Not great when a client wants to follow along.

Role-based access control solves that. Create a role that can only
view statistics and emails, invite your client with that role and
grant access to their own project only. Your client follows their
sending activity, and the rest of your clients stay out of sight.

Combine it with [hiding email
content](https://lettermint.co/changelog/hide-email-content-in-your-dashboard)
and you even decide per role who can view the content of emails.
